FAQ

Frequently asked Questions…

How do I start?

Send an enquiry to book a free consultation with Past Time Genealogy with a brief description of what sort of research you would like carried out.

We will then contact you to set up either an in person or online meeting. Before the meeting, we will send you a questionnaire to establish what you already know about your family and any documents you may already have.

What do I need to give you to begin?

To avoid duplicating any information you have and to keep costs down any documents you may already have such as birth, baptism, marriage and death certificates will be of assistance.  There are a myriad of useful documents and we will send you a checklist to assist with this.

What sort of timeline am I looking at?

The timeline will depend on the package you choose.

How long will the research take?

Family history research is dependent on what source documents are available. If the documents are easy to find research will advance more quickly, however, often a number of alternative strategies and avenues may need to be researched which may take longer.

Research is also limited to the time taken for delivery of certificates. Sometimes research needs to be completed in stages and may be dependent on receiving certificates before going on to the next stage.

Time is also dependent on the number of ongoing projects.

What do I get at the end?

The Family Tree Packages are outlined in detail under the Services tab on the website.

When do I need a genealogist?

It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out on your family history journey or have already carried out a lot of research and have hit a brick wall a genealogist can assist you to unravel your family story.
